I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Georgia and I hold a Masters Degree in Social Work as well as a certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Georgia (2014). My background is in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which I began learning about and utilizing during my graduate practicum at a behavioral health facility. Upon completing my graduate degree, I continued to focus on DBT working with teens, college students, and adults at Athens DBT center for 5 years.
What to expect
My approach to therapy is strength’s based, humanistic, and relational with a practical approach to change. This means I believe you are the expert on your life and I am here to partner with you; I’ll offer acceptance and compassion balanced with empowering you to make changes in your life based on your personal goals and values. If you’re not exactly sure what those are, we can explore and uncover those together. My training and experience with DBT is helpful for all types of people; I use the core principles of DBT to teach clients practical skills and tools for communicating, regulating and understanding emotions, tolerating stress and distress, and practicing mindfulness. I also use DBT methods to help clients track and change patterns that are unhelpful as well as teaching and implementing more positive habits that make it easier to regulate emotions and distress.
